Liverpool Township is located in Medina County, Ohio about 20 miles south of Cleveland. The township is governed by a Board of Township Trustees composed of 3 Trustees and a Township Clerk. All four are elected to four-terms that are staggered so that every two years, either one Trustee and the Clerk, or two Trustees are up for election. The Trustees take office on January 1st and the Clerk takes office on April 1st following the election. The Board of Trustees decides issues of Liverpool Township Policy and is responsible for all expenditures of Township funds. The Board also appoints all Zoning officials and hires Township Employees.
The authority of Township government is limited to only those specific duties which are designated under Ohio State Law. Unlike cities or villages, Townships do not have the authority to pass law or offer many basic services. Many of the services commonly associated with local government are under the legal jurisdiction of the county, state, or federal government. These include water and sewers, animal control, maintenance of county, state, and U.S. highways, environmental protection and public health. Although they have no legal authority over these services, Township officials can act as community spokesmen to take local problems to the attention of higher officials and assist them with finding solutions. The Liverpool Township Trustees are always available to assist citizens with problems dealing with Liverpool Township, Medina County, State of Ohio, and even the federal government.
Regular Trustee Meetings are open to the public and are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month beginning at 7:30PM at the Liverpool Community Center located at 6801 School Street in Valley City. They are also telecast on Armstrong Cable Channel 36 or Cable Channel 202 if you have a digital box, every Thursday.

A Liverpool Connection Across The Pond

Chris Harvey, and Trustee Barb MackOn Friday, August 10th, 2007 the Liverpool Zoning office got a visit from Phil Bimpson and Chris Harvey who reside in Liverpool, England and are making a visit of all the townships and cities named Liverpool all over the globe. Phil has a website that has links to his travels, pictures, videos and other information related to the Liverpools they have visited. He and Chris were inquiring as to the history of the township, the origin of the name and also noted would be here for the Frog Jump that was held August 12th in the Mill Stream Park.
Phil and Chris visited with Zoning Inspector Dave Rea, Zoning Secretary Theresa Scherry and Trustees Barb Mack and Kathy Keller. He presented them with pins from the upcoming celebration of the founding of Liverpool, England in 1207. They will celebrate their 800th Anniversary at the end of August. We will celebrate our 200th in 2010, we have a way to go to catch up to that other Liverpool. While their Liverpool is famous for Beatles, ours is famous for Frogs.
We look forward to his updating of his website with pictures and video from Liverpool Township (the last one he discovered, but that's another story) and to keeping in touch with us here in Valley City.
